LAX AMMUNITION Review
Up until a few weeks ago, I knew nothing about a company called LAX Ammunition. Based in Southern California, this company was established in 2009 when the market demanded high quality ammunition at an affordable price. I was given some 115 grain full copper plated 9mm ammo to test out and here are my results.
Being a competitive shooter who reloads, I was very skeptical on the kind of results this ammo could produce. But my test results are a bit surprising. I am actually quite impressed by what I saw. The test gun I chose was my factory CZ P-09. I wanted this test to represent what most people in the market for factory ammunition would be shooting it with and normally it would be done with a factory or close to factory gun. My P-09 is unmodified and should give a good representation of other platforms out there.
After pulling a bullet from the batch, the advertised weight of 115 grains reflected that on my scale. 115.2 grains to be exact. The bullet was in fact 100% fully copper plated. Zero lead was exposed. Using a Shooting Chrony chronograph at 10 feet, here are the results from a 10 shot string.
Average: 1159.5 feet per second
Extreme Spread: 84
Standard Deviation: 25.7
Power Factor: 133.6
I normally won’t claim any ammunition or any firearm to be reliable without running at least 1000 rounds through it but with the given test batch of 175 rounds, I don’t have that luxury. I will report that every round case gaged good while using my EGW case gage and I experienced zero malfunctions during my test.
I decided to test accuracy with 10 shot groups at 12 yards and 5 shot groups at 25 yards. Shooting from a rest and bags, I found the groups to be consistent and acceptable. I normally demand smaller groups from my reloads at these distances but in the ammo’s defense, I had a very hard time ensuring the same point of aim while using the wide factory installed front sight on my CZ. My best 12 yard group measured at just under 2 inches and 2.5 inches at 25 yards.
If you rely on factory ammunition to plink, target shoot, train or compete, in my opinion, this could be a viable option. The prices listed on their website laxammo.com, compete directly with other brand offerings. This ammunition proved to yield consistent results meeting the minimum power factor required in the action shooting sports and functioned reliably ensuring a enjoyable and successful day at the range.
